There are few that doubt that now is the time for PV to shine. Global energy-market turmoil, instability of supply as a result of weather and geopolitical events, and the urgent imperative to decarbonize have combined to require the solar industry to scale up dramatically in both installations and manufacturing capacity.

The PV industry is stepping up to meet these challenges. With the first terawatt of installed PV capacity having been achieved over the past 70 years, the next terawatt is expected to take only another three.

However, there is truth in the often-quoted meme: that with great power comes great responsibility. And the solar industry must scale in a sustainable fashion if it is to meet this pressing global need.
